Business Development Manager – Retail Food (US Markets)

Greater Vancouver, BC (Hybrid)

Do you have proven experience in business development in Food Service or traditional CPG channels? Do you enjoy to travel? Our client, a leading food distributor, is looking for a sharp, high-potential individual to join their team as a Business Development Manager. The ideal candidate possesses a proven track record in Sales and Business Development with a focus of growing a portfolio in the US. The ideal candidate will exhibit the capability to work independently and excel in establishing and maintaining positive business relations with customers, reflecting excellent interpersonal skills. This position will have the opportunity to explore and travel throughout the United States & Abroad.

The role involves possessing a deep understanding of global trade dynamics and cultural impacts, alongside developing and executing sales strategies to expand the company's North American presence. This includes conducting extensive market research to identify suitable markets, analyzing trends, and pursuing new business opportunities. Building strong client relationships through effective communication and delivering persuasive sales presentations is crucial. Collaboration with various departments ensures readiness for successful outcomes, while staying updated on industry trends and regulations informs strategic decision-making. Generating sales reports and engaging in negotiations to secure favorable terms further contribute to the company's success. This position comes with the flexibility of supporting a hybrid work schedule where a portion of your week can be spent working from a home office when not on the road. 15 weeks of the year will be spent traveling to clients & tradeshows both in the US and overseas.

**This is a Hybrid role, but successful applicants will have to reside in the Lower Mainland or Fraser Valley Markets**

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel to overseas markets as necessary to meet with current and potential clients, participate in trade shows, and engage in industry networking events.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of trade dynamics and their cultural implications.
  • Formulate and execute sales strategies aimed at broadening the company's global footprint.
  • Conduct thorough market research to pinpoint US markets and evaluate their suitability for business expansion.
  • Identify and pursue fresh business prospects by analyzing market trends, competitor actions, and customer demands.
  • Cultivate and nurture strong relationships with both existing and prospective clientele through regular communication and follow-ups.
  • Deliver persuasive sales presentations and product demonstrations, highlighting the company's offerings and competitive advantages in terms of branding, pricing, and promotional tactics.
  • Collaborate with various departments such as Sales, Marketing, R&D, and operations to ensure readiness for customer satisfaction and successful sales outcomes.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, market dynamics, and international regulatory frameworks
  • Generate sales reports and forecasts, offering insights and recommendations to management for strategic planning.
  • Engage in negotiations and finalize business agreements, ensuring favorable terms for the company.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of work experience in a sales with a focus on US markets
  • Completed post-secondary education preferably (business or international relations)
  • Possesses robust analytical problem-solving skills, with a knack for analyzing reports and extracting insights from data.
  • Proven experience in building trust with prospective customers and successfully securing new business.
  • Exhibits skills in consultative selling, networking, and negotiations.
  • Valid Passport and Drivers Liscence
  • Demonstrates readiness to travel internationally as necessary
  • Proficient understanding of global markets, encompassing cultural subtleties, commercial practices, and regulatory landscapes.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, adept at fostering relationships and negotiating effectively with a diverse clientele.
  • Possesses an analytical approach, capable of conducting thorough market research, interpreting data, and pinpointing business prospects.
  • Driven by results, with a track record of surpassing business development objectives.
  • Familiarity with digital technologies for international market access, along with proficiency in utilizing various business development tools for lead management, activity tracking, and report generation.
